Rudy Vanderwal survives early crash to win his 3rd Pro Truck feature of 2015

(06-13-2015 Dacono Colorado) Rudy Vanderwal won in the most improbable way during the Acme Trucking & All-State Sweeping event at CNS after crashing on lap one and then working his way back to the front in the closing laps. Danny Medina and Kyle Clegg put on another hair-raising battle in the Legends division as did Will Alvarado and Jeff Dempewolf in the Pure Stocks. Jereme Wall proved once again he is the car to beat in the Figure 8 division winning his third straight feature event.

When the Pro Trucks show up at Colorado National Speedway all hell breaks loose and it was no different tonight when the green flag dropped for a 30 lap feature event. On the very first lap the #11 of Steve Johnson and the #36 Matt Burton made contact in turn 3 causing a chain reaction of spinning and crashing trucks. #34 Rudy Vanderwal, #17 Scott Rhoades, and #7 Adam Deines all suffered damage to their trucks. Vanderwal zipped into the pits under caution to make repairs and it certainly seemed like his chances of a good finish were over at that point.

Moments later the two leaders made contact again when Johnson sent Burton spinning in turn two. Once again a massive pileup ensued behind them. Johnson was sent to rear and a new leader emerged in the #82 Truck of Cheyenne’s Michael Scott.

Scott led comfortably for awhile but then #2 of AJ Warren pulled up on his bumper and the two trucks began to duel. Warren dove to the inside of Scott and they raced door handle to door handle for several laps until Warren took the lead. Scott returned the favor by diving to the inside of Warren but Warren pinched low sending himself spinning into to one.

On the restart Scott elected the inside lane and along side was none other than #34 Rudy Vanderwal who patiently had worked his way back up front after the early race crash. Rudy got a good restart and took the lead from Scott and landed himself in winner’s circle for the third time in the 2015 season. Scott finished an impressive second place with Matt Burton in third. In fourth was Steve Johnson and Chris Cox in the #6 took the final spot in the top five.

UPDATE: The #82 truck failed a post race inspection.

Legends

Danny Medina from Colorado Springs has been a dominate force in the Legend division this season but he would have to work his way to the front from the tenth starting spot to have a chance to win his second feature of the season. As bad as that might sound for Medina, #66 Kyle Clegg and 1w Jereme Wall would have a tougher hill to climb starting at the very back of the field for failing post race tech after the dash races.

When the green flag dropped the fun began as Medina, Clegg, and Wall, came barreling up through the field passing cars high, low, and sometimes going three-wide.

Up front #6 Scotty Scott was setting the pace leading the race in comfortable fashion yet on lap six Medina went around Scott to grab the lead.

Kyle Clegg who was married just the night before wanted a checkered flag honeymoon and came storming around Medina to take the lead. But on the same lap Medina dove back under Clegg to regain control of the race. Jereme Wall and Scotty Scott also were in the thick of the battle but made contact in turn two and spun bringing out the yellow. In the closing laps Clegg got around Medina but another caution came out placing Medina back up front for another restart.

As the white flag flew Clegg tried to make one last move around Medina but a crash on the backstretch involving the #19 of Larry Pachello sealed the win for Medina. The Legend drivers put on an incredible race for the CNS fans and Danny Medina was quick to acknowledge the great run from the other drivers in winner’s circle. While Medina took home the trophy Clegg finished second, #30 Darrell J. Stewart was third, #25 Adam Pechman was fourth, and #3 Darrel L Stewart was fifth. The Legend cars return to action June 20th.

Lincoln Tech Pure Stocks

Lafayette’s Tyler Davis in the gorgeous #33 El Camino Pure Stock started on the pole for the 25 lap Pure Stock feature and took the early lead. Impressively Davis maintained the lead until lap eleven when the #06 station wagon of Jeff Dempewolf took control of the race.

Dempewolf looked poised to win the feature as #03% Will Alvarado, #84 Jose Mares, and Davis battled for second spot. With five laps remaining the caution came out when the #21 of Jamie Ward and the 96r of Rhonda Miller made contact in turn four.

This was the break that Alvarado needed as he took the lead on the double-file restart. Alvarado maintained control and went on to win his second straight feature event in the Pure Stock division. Dempewolf settled for second with Mares, Davis, and Greeley’s Sean Smith in the 02e car rounding out the top five. The Pure Stocks return to action on June 20th.

Art’s Septic Service Figure 8s

Jereme Wall’s perfect season in the Figure 8s continued last night as he came from sixth starting spot in the feature to take the checkered. Wall took the lead from #50 Justin McKeachie on lap seven and stayed out front the remainder of the race.

Behind the #15 car the battle raged between McKeachie, #52 Jared Wall and #23 Big Al Duran. With just a couple laps to go the leaders approached lapped traffic and as McKeachie went by #10 Frank Gastineau the two made contact sending McKeachie spinning into turn 3. Miraculously McKeachie completed the full spin and kept right on going only losing one position to Jared Wall in the #52 car.
