Pueblo Bank & Trust Local People Making Local Decisions Night A Hit At CNS

July 13, 2024 ~ Dacono, CO

A hot track made for hot action at Colorado National Speedway on Saturday, July 13th, 2024. Fans were delighted with fantastic, close racing by our Super Stocks, Late Models, Super Late Models, and the spectacle of Demo X Lite and Heavy at the end of the night. Although it was rather warm before the sun dipped behind the grandstands, CNS kept things cool with ice-cold drinks and an unforgettable night of entertainment. Check out how it all went down in the recap below.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

Chris Eggleston, driver of the No. 22, and Michael Scott, driver of the No. 82, led the SLM field to the green. Eggleston charged into the lead as Scott fell in behind him, blocking the No. 12 of Bruce Yackey. Yackey responded and got into the back of Scott’s car, snapping him loose and collecting the No. 11 of Darren Robertson, Bruce Yackey, the No. 32 of Brett Yackey, and the No. 24 of Cody Dempster. Scott and Dempster pulled into the pits for crew attention; Robertson continued with light damage. The field lined up for a restart, pitting Eggleston against Bruce Yackey on the front row. Bruce Yackey barely claimed the lead, while Zach Morris in the No. 89 and Brett Yackey fought for second. Their battle held each other up as Eggleston stretched his lead. Brett Yackey captured second, and Eggleston took the win.

Dash – 10 Laps

The No. 37, piloted by Ethan Hunter, shot into the lead, followed closely by the No. 22Y of Brian Yackey and the No. 3C of Cassidy Hinds. By the second lap, the field had strung out single file. Brian Yackey finally gained an advantage over Hinds and set after Hunter. He closed the distance, riding up on Hunter’s bumper. Hunter blocked him, but Brian Yackey pulled alongside. Battling door-to-door for the lead under the white flag, both drivers were locked in a dead heat. The checkered flag snapped over Brian Yackey’s car, who won by just 0.031 seconds in a photo finish that brought the fans to their feet.

Feature – 40 Laps

Fifteen snarling SLM race cars paced behind Bruce Yackey and Morris. Before the race went green, Scott, who was supposed to start third, pulled off the track to address a tire rub. He returned before the green and started sixth. When the race started, Bruce Yackey cleared Morris for the lead as the top four held tight side-by-side formation through the first few laps. However, Morris used his momentum and lunged past Bruce Yackey, slicing down the track in front of him to take the top spot. Eggleston also found an opportunity to put Bruce Yackey in the rearview, while Brett Yackey got around Robertson for fourth. Brett Yackey continued his forward march, leaning on Eggleston for third place, gaining the position just six laps in. Up front, Morris continued to lead, while Scott settled into his preferred line near the wall, picking off cars on his way to the front. Brett Yackey muscled past his father, Bruce Yackey; Scott tried to take advantage of the high side again to pass Bruce Yackey but couldn’t make it stick. Brett Yackey settled into second place, awaiting his opportunity to pass Morris.

At the halfway point, Brett Yackey caught up to Morris and began to apply pressure. In a bumper lock, Brett Yackey worked on Morris, wearing out his rear bumper before moving to the inside and pulling even with him. Morris wasn’t ready to surrender the lead and fought back. As Brett Yackey finally pulled ahead, Morris fired back with a shot to the rear bumper. Morris was held up by a lapped car and regrouped but found himself under fire from Robertson and Bruce Yackey. Brett Yackey was able to hang onto the lead and gained a few car lengths on Morris. Behind him, Robertson looked for a way around Bruce Yackey for third place, but was cut short when the caution waved for Brian Yackey and the No. 25 of Monty Skinner. Skinner, a lap down at the time, contacted Brian Yackey, who was sent to the rear after the incident.

When the race went green again, Brett Yackey reclaimed the lead. Morris overdrove the corner and got a bit loose, allowing Bruce Yackey the chance to cut the distance and take P2. As they fought neck-and-neck for the runner-up position, Brett Yackey claimed a comfortable lead. On the last lap, Morris charged back even with Bruce Yackey, trading positions as they surged back around on the front stretch. It was a drag race to the stripe, and Morris earned a second-place finish just ahead of Bruce Yackey, while Brett Yackey took his third Feature victory of the season.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

Lee Kemmit led the first lap in the No. 98, fending off the No. 40 of Brandon Newey, who tried to switch lanes to find an advantage over Kemmit. However, Newey dipped too low and almost backed into the path of the No. 6 of Tommy Roe, but reined his car back in and kept going. After starting mid-pack, the No. A51 of Kyle Clegg muscled into third place, almost wearing out Newey for second. The No. 51 of Eric Meisner charged through the pack and claimed third place with just two laps left. Kemmit, who had not surrendered the lead, suddenly fell into Clegg’s clutches. Clegg slipped to the outside of Kemmit. The two entered a drag race heading to the checkers. Clegg swung high and threw his car ahead at the line to claim the Fast Dash win.

Dash – 10 Laps

Bryce Weinmaster’s No. 58 jumped out front to lead Lap 1, while Casey Wiggans rallied his No. 18 machine against Joseph Andrande’s No. 32 for second place. Wiggans easily completed the pass on Andrande, who suddenly plummeted, and turned his attention to Weinmaster. The No. 23 of Jordan Abeyta suddenly entered the conversation, ripping past Weinmaster for second and locking onto Wiggans. The No. 7X of Kyle Morse began to pressure Abeyta for P2, holding them both up as Wiggans wheeled his car to the win; Abeyta hung onto the runner-up spot right to the checkers.

Feature – 30 Laps

Dan Alamaa pushed his No. 8 to lead the first lap, while the second-place starter, the No. 5 of Del Trantham Jr., battled with Roe for P2. Meisner passed Tessa Marine’s No. 99 for P3 and waited for the fight between Trantham and Roe to sort itself out so he could overtake them both. Clegg, meanwhile, had already gotten up to fifth in the rather chaotic start. As Alamaa continued to pace the field, Meisner swung three-wide to finally put Trantham and Roe in the rearview, but the pack unraveled when Trantham and Roe slammed together, sending the latter for a spin. Roe was given his spot back and Meisner was sent to the tail end of the longest line.

Alamaa distanced Roe on the restart, reclaiming the lead. Morse’s race car suffered a flat tire and caused him to pull off, but the track stayed green. As Alamaa took off with the lead, Clegg picked off Roe and took over the second spot. On Lap 11, Clegg had Alamaa in the crosshairs, sweeping into the uppermost lane and putting Alamaa behind him. Before he could put much distance down, Newey spun from fourth and backed his race car into the wall. After the racing surface was cleared off, Clegg and Alamaa took off neck-and-neck. Clegg pulled ahead to a slight advantage a few laps later, leaving Alamaa to defend second, while Trantham passed Roe for third. Alamaa rallied back to within one car-length of Clegg. Deeper in the field, Roe and Wiggans fought for fourth place, while Meisner had already muscled back into sixth place, fighting back from the rear. Clegg cleared several lapped cars and solidified his lead. Wiggans and Roe continued to lean on each other, neither willing to cede an inch of asphalt, even as Meisner gained on them both. Clegg ditched Alamaa to win his third Feature of the year, and Wiggans was able to get by Roe in a drag race for fourth place at the line.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

After two botched attempts at the start, the front row – the No. 82 of Ian Clark and the No. 4 of Chris Jordan – were moved one row back, putting the No. 97 of Kyle Stidham and the No. 11W of Scott Long up front. Stidham took off into the lead and slid down in front of Long, stringing the top five cars single file behind him. Chris Cox’s No. 49 took fourth, with the No. 9 of Brent Cave behind him, and sighted the leaders. He picked off Clark with Cave hot on his heels as the field still chased Stidham. Long pressured Stidham across the line, but to no avail – it would be Stidham with the win under the checkers, while Cave tried to get a run on Cox, but fell just short at the stripe.

Dash – 10 Laps

The No. 99JR of Ryan Raley Jr. ditched the No. 5C of Kyle Carrasco on the start, both tailed by Dillyn Kellogg, driver of the No. 33. Then, the No. 7 of David Robinson and Carrasco got together on the back stretch, but they held onto their race cars and stayed pointed in the right direction. Kellogg, meanwhile, suddenly found the speed to get around Raley for the lead, taking control of the race. Robinson kept right on Raley’s rear bumper for second place, finally completing the pass on the last lap as Kellogg continued to lead and snagged the Dash win.

Feature – 25 Laps

The green flag fell on a pack of 21 Super Stocks, putting Clark to the point as he pulled Cave along behind him, and the race stayed green despite a car spinning to the infield. Cave got past the No. 3 of Mike Cox for second and rode right up on Clark. The top five ran nose-to-tail, holding formation for a few laps, until Chris Cox charged past Long for third and floored it after the leaders. Cave, meanwhile, clawed his way into the lead, leaving Clark to defend second against Mike Cox. The battle was short-lived. Cox made short work of Clark and had Cave behind him almost immediately after, settling into the race lead. Then, Long locked onto Clark, using both their bumpers as he tried to find a way around. After a tough battle, he finally completed the pass just in time for the No. 5W of Troy Witthar to lose its driveshaft and hammer the Turn 3 wall. Less than a lap later, several cars tangled toward the back of the pack – right in front of the leaders – sending the No. 34 of Bryson Brooks around and triggering a caution.

Cave and Cox restarted alongside each other, and Cox easily took the lead back. Cave dove in behind him, while Clark and Long fought hard for third place. Cave was all over Cox for the lead, but started to run out of laps to make something happen as the checkered flag loomed. Long finally got past Clark with four laps to go, taking third place, while Cox easily deflected Cave’s advances and shot under the checkered flag for his third win of the season.
