(Dacono 06-25-2016) On a gorgeous Colorado summer evening Jace Hansen lead almost every lap of the Mountain View Fire and Rescue night feature in the Super Late Model division. Hansen had to endure a strong charge from Darren Robertson and Kyle Ray to win his 3rd feature of the season. In the SUNOCO Race Fuels Grand American Modifieds Kyle Ray made a late race pass on Darin Clark to take the win. And in what might have been the best race this season at CNS Curtis Heldenbrand made a last corner pass on Kody Vanderwal to win the Super Stock feature event.

Gillet Vet Clinic Super Late Models
Greeley’s Brett Yackey in the #32 car and #84 Matt Zwingleberg from Parker paced the field for the 40 lap Gillet Vet Clinic Super Late Model feature event on Mountain View Fire Rescue Night. Yackey got loose coming out of turn 2 giving Zwingleberg the lead and allowing several other cars to pass. Yet after just 4 laps it was #08 Jace Hansen from Broomfield who went under Zwingleberg to take the lead.
Behind the leader, Kyle Ray in the #58 and #11 Darren Robertson appeared to be making up time lap after lap and with half of the race to go they had caught Hansen and were pressuring for the lead. Ray dove to the inside of Hansen to take the lead and appeared to have the stronger car. However Hansen wasn’t giving up and he powered back out front on the outside of Ray in a fantastic battle for the lead. Darrin Robertson was also in the mix and he pushed his way passed Ray to take over 2nd and shoot for the win. This 3-way battle for the lead sent the large CNS crowd to the edge of their seat as the action was constant lap after lap.

When the checkered flag flew it was Hansen with his 3rd Super Late Model feature win of the season with Robertson, Ray, Dominic Ursetta in the #6 and Justin Simonson in the #9 rounding out the top 5.
With the finish Hansen and Robertson were able to slightly chip away at Ursetta’s massive point lead in the season standings who now leads by 33 points. The Super Late Models will run a special event on Sunday July 3rd in the Famous Dave’s BBQ Special.

SUNOCO Race Fuels Grand American Modifieds
Just 9 SUNOCO Race Fuels Grand American Modifieds took the green flag for the feature event. Fast Dash winner Darin Clark in the #13 car picked up where he left off and jumped out to a lead over #66 John Seely who was celebrating a birthday.

#0 Ron O’Neil, #44 Justin Case, and #58 Kyle Ray, were all working their way to the front from starting at the rear of the field. Eventually Ray moved into 2nd place but he was still well behind Clark who maintained a very large lead. Behind the two leaders O’Neil and Case battled for 3rd spot a position that Case would ultimately secure.
With 5 laps to go Ray caught and passed Clark and went on to take the checkered flag, his first in the Grand American Modifieds this season. Clark settled for 2nd, Case 3rd, O’Neil 4th and #88 Jeff Walbaum was 5th.

Great Scotts Eatery Super Stocks
There have been a lot of great races at Colorado National Speedway in the 2016 season but none better than Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stock Feature on June 25th. On the final corner of the final lap Arvada’s Curtis Heldenbrand in the #9 car snuck under #43 Kody Vanderwal to take the win by mere inches.

Vanderwal led the feature for 24 of the 25 laps but Heldenbrand led the 20 feet that mattered most picking up his first ever feature win. It appeared that Greeley’s Brian Yackey in the #22 car might be the car to beat as he moved through the field battling #3 Michael Cox and Heldenbrand to take 2nd and pressure for the lead. But as the race wore down Heldenbrand found his groove and worked his way back into second place and ultimately the win.
The top 5 finishers were Heldenbrand, Vanderwal, Yackey, Michael Cox, and Chris Cox in the #2. Kody Vanderwal now holds a 13 point lead over Michael Cox in the #3 car in the season standings.

Witthar Racing Trains
Both the #86 Last Call Train and the #7 Cole Train appeared to have been shot out of a canon and where flying around the track at break-neck speed. With tons of action in the X the CNS crowd cheered as the Witthar Racing Trains put on a highly entraining feature event. On the final lap the Last Call Train lost the tire on the left front and had to slow just enough which allowed the Cole Train to take the lead and the win.
