August 24, 2024 ~ Dacono, CO
On Saturday, August 24th, 2024, full fields of Pro Trucks, Late Models, Pure Stocks & Demo Cross Lite & Heavies took to the track at Colorado National Speedway. Each race had its ups and downs as we did our best Daytona impression full of side-by-side battles, restarts that were anyone’s game, and incidents that kept the fields all but even as the night cooled off. To cap things off, the Demo X divisions took to the infield jumps, crowning the No. 15 of Sean Frank the victor in the Lite division and No. 88 of Joe Prante the winner in the Heavy class. Catch up on all the excitement below.
Track Official Victor Bentley was injured in an accident over the off-season and made his return to CNS for the first time in 2024 and proposed to his girlfriend one of our safety officials Justina. We at CNS are all #victorstrong.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps
Steve Johnson’s No. 11 launched into the lead over the No. 85 of Jeff Walbaum as soon as the green flag dropped. Johnson went onto lead the first lap, while the No. 9 of Curtis Heldenbrand nearly pinched the No. 16 of Travis Roe a bit too high and just about laid him against the backstretch wall. Heldenbrand dove inside the No. 7 of Adam Deines for sixth as the top four filed nose-to-tail. Tyler Wiggans forced his way into the conversation for P2, putting his No. 50 truck right on Walbaum. As they tried to work that out, Heldenbrand tried to go three-wide, but nosed hard into Wiggans’ bumper and spun him out. That left Johnson and Walbaum back up front, and it played out just like the start as Johnson tried to reclaim his lead. He wasn’t without pressure from Walbaum, who raced him hard right to the stripe – but it would be Johnson across the line first.
Dash – 10 Laps
Brian Weinmaster’s No. 28 and Chris Nelson’s No. 21 led the field to green. Nelson barely got the advantage as the No. 69 of Sean Fry took over fourth place, on a steady forward march to the front. He tried to get to the outside of the No. 6 of Kip Sandell, but his run was stalled. On Lap 5, Weinmaster fired back at Nelson from P2 and reclaimed the lead, pulling Sandell through with him. In clean air, Weinmaster set sail and picked up the Dash win.
Feature – 30 Laps
Fry, starting from the front row alongside the No. 20 of Tanner Faatz, got a bit too far ahead on the first restart, prompting a second attempt. This time, it went much better, and Fry still claimed the lead over the No. 18 of Cade Fox. Just six laps in, Sandell and Nelson slammed together and went sideways on the front stretch. Both drivers were able to pull away from the wreck, but Sandell’s race truck was worse for wear and shed part of its nose in Turn 3. The Debris impeded the racing surface, prompting a caution. Fry kept the lead out of Fox’s hands when the race restarted as Wiggans overtook Faatz. The field went three-wide for fourth on back, until a yellow waved over Walbaum and Faatz, who made contact and spat debris on the front stretch, once again prompting a caution.
Fox and Fry once again took the green from the front row, but as Fry got away from the pack, Wiggans took second from Fox. Heldenbrand had fought back to fourth and tried to go three-wide and nearly clipped Deines, but backed out to avoid contact. Fry continued to show the way as the pack jostled for position behind him as Heldenbrand sliced into third, picking off Wiggans and Fry in short order, but he completed the pass in the ditch and was penalized and removed from the lead. Alyssa Salazar’s No. 23 suffered a mechanical failure and slowed on the backstretch. The red flag waved as crews attended to the mess and the disabled race truck. When it went green again, Heldenbrand was back on the front row, having recovered from his earlier penalty. He took the lead over Roe and worked the outside line to maintain his lead, but couldn’t quite shake Roe as they ran the race down to the wire. Heldenbrand held the advantage through the first two turns, but Roe answered by being better in Turns 3 and 4. They were still side by side in a dead heat at the line, until Roe finally got the advantage on the backstretch, but just barely. It was anyone’s race as the checkered flag dropped, but Roe powered through in a photo finish, winning by 0.082 seconds.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps
Tommy Roe wheeled his No. 6 machine to the point at the drop of the green flag, while the No. 17X of Mariah Boudrieau plummeted from her front-row starting spot, falling in behind the No. A51 of Kyle Clegg and the No. 98 of Lee Kemmit. Kemmit set himself right in the tire tracks of his teammate, Roe, looking to the inside of the No. 6 as he searched for a way around. On Lap 6, Kemmit finally completed the pass. Roe lost even more ground and was passed by Clegg and eventually the No. 99 of Tessa Marine, who snagged third place right at the line. Kemmit, meanwhile, held off Clegg for the win.
Dash – 10 Laps
Joseph Andrande’s No. 32 and Kyle Morse’s No. 7X stayed in two-wide formation up front for a few laps with the No. 48 of Mikey Blackard hot on their heels. Morse and Andrande slipped up high and nearly opened the door for Blackard underneath them, but they were able to hold him off and continued their two-man battle for the lead. Casey Wiggans set his No. 18 right on the bumper of Blackard’s machine, waiting for his chance. On Lap 8, he had it – Blackard tried to go three-wide with Andrande and Morse. He tangled with Andrande, who spun out, allowing Wiggans the opening he needed to get to the point. He went on to win.
Feature – 30 Laps
Boudrieau and Blackard led to the green flag. Boudrieau shot out front as Marine and the No. 21 of Robert Hoard touched and bounced apart, but kept their race cars rolling. Kemmit tried to pick off Hoard but kept getting cut off as Boudrieau continued to lead. Marine demoted Hoard, followed by Kemmit in fourth, as Marine swung wide in an attempt to put Blackard behind her. They stayed side-by-side as Kemmit delivered a shot to Marine’s rear bumper. Marine was able to stay ahead, but their three-way battle allowed Boudrieau to comfortably lead. Hoard, meanwhile, slowed up the back half of the field, holding up Roe, the No. 51 of Eric Meisner, the No. 8 of Dan Alamaa among others. Finally, Roe and Meisner got around Hoard and lunged after the leaders, but they had quite a bit of ground to make up.
Meanwhile, Blackard and Marine were still going at it for second place. Meisner took fifth away from Roe, while Blackard finally got the better of Marine and took second. As Boudrieau maintained her healthy lead, the No. 5 of Del Trantham Jr. was turned around after light contact from Hoard, triggering the first yellow flag on Lap 16. Boudrieau then had to hold off Blackard on the restart. Then, Marine, who was running third, got hung out on the outside, three-wide with Blackard and Clegg. They made contact but stayed out of trouble as Meisner set about reeling in Boudrieau up front. He had her within two car lengths, but she hit her marks and ran a great race with Meisner in close quarters. She continued to show the way, holding off charges from Meisner, and took her first ever Late Model victory in dominating fashion.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps
David Wilson put his bright green No. 5 machine to the point as soon as the green fell. By Lap 2, the top five had strung out single file, but the fourth spot was a nose-to-tail battle between the No. 53 of Josh Hopkins and the No. 32 of Rick Phillips. Phillips held the position and tried to make the pass on the No. 18Y of Justin Young, but couldn’t make it stick. However, they pulled side-by-side with two laps left. Young, trying his best to defend the position, drifted high and let Phillips past at the line. Wilson went on to win, followed closely by the No. 34 of Ronnie Johnson.
Dash – 10 Laps
Chan Raley’s No. 02 took the lead early, while Shane Johnson took second from the No. 78 of Mark Bremkamp. Bremkamp then battled the No. 10W of Gauge Witthar for third, but he held his position. Bremkamp wore out Johnson’s rear bumper as Raley gapped the field. The race stayed green flag-to-flag, even as the No. 77 of Brian Bunn spun out. Raley wouldn’t look back and took the victory.
Feature – 25 Laps
An insane first lap full of jostling and banging saw the field running in four-wide formation behind the No. 15 of Brenden Knowles. All that craziness resulted in Wilson spinning out alongside the No. 63 of Kenneth Bowlus toward the back of the pack, causing a caution. Knowles and Witthar restarted on the front row, but before the pack got up to speed, the No. 53 of Josh Hopkins and Young slammed together in Turn 1 as Bowlus was swept into the melee. Young’s race car bounced back into traffic as Hopkins clobbered the wall. A red flag was waved so CNS safety crews could attend to the drivers involved and clear the racing surface.
Again, Knowles and Witthar took the green up front. Knowles reclaimed his lead, or at least tried to. It wouldn’t last long – Witthar dove down on the No. 7X of Dustin Camp, causing both to spin. Yet another restart pitted Knowles and Witthar against each other up front. Knowles kept the lead as Bremkamp was spun by Camp, but the race stayed green. Up front, Phillips caught Knowles for the lead and pulled even with him briefly before taking the top spot himself. Johnson won a quick battle with the No. 1 of Derek Spalding for third, and then took second from Knowles. But Johnson’s mission toward the front was snuffed out when he made contact with Knowles, ripping shredding the right front tire and forcing him to pull off.
Up front, Phillips continued to show the way, even as Witthar found himself turned around again. He kept going without a yellow flag. The No. 99 of Dillon Meigs worked on Spalding for third as Wilson, having recovered from his early race incident, also entered the discussion. Phillips, still leading, caught slower traffic on Lap 17. The lapped cars allowed Spalding to gap Meigs and Wilson for third. The field fell single file now, at least until Meigs pulled alongside Spalding for third. A lap later, Meigs had the position, ditching Spalding. As Phillips led the field to his first win of the season, Spalding mounted one final charge to take back his spot from Meigs, but fell just short of making it happen. Spalding settled for third, while Knowles claimed the runner-up spot.
