Father and Son, Bruce and Brett Yackey win Championships on Gillett Vet Clinic Night

(09-19-2015 Dacono Colorado) While Dominic Ursetta was obliterating the field in the Gillette Vet Clinic Super Late Models it was Bruce Yackey who was pacing his way to his amazing 14th Track Championship (9th in the Super Late Models). Bruce wasn’t the only Yackey picking up season ending hardware as his son Brett the “Maverick” Yackey snagged the Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stock Championship. Jamie Trengove won the Mod Coupe championship and Jared “Wally” Wall took home the Witthar Racing Trains championship.

In one of the most dominating performances ever witnessed at CNS Dominic Ursetta in the #6 Super Late Model set quick time, won the fast dash, and went on to win BOTH the 30 lap and 50 lap feature events in the Gillett Vet Clinic Super Late Model division. Ursetta cruised to victory winning both mains capping off an incredible season scoring 9 feature event wins and finishing second in the point standings.

The only thing that Ursetta didn’t accomplish was winning the championship which went to Bruce “the Moose” Yackey who brought home is 9th Super Late Model Championship and 14th championship overall. Yackey’s consistency paid off in 2015 by finishing in the to 5 in every main event all season long. Yackey also notched a couple 1st place wins on the season as well giving him a 36 point margin over Ursetta when it was all said and done.

In the 50 lap feature behind Ursetta were, Eggleston, Yackey, Crocker, and #27 Roger Avants from Littleton.

Rookie driver Matt Brunker in the #29 car from Lakewood Colorado was the Gillett Vet Clinic Super Late Model rookie of the year.

While the points race is over the biggest race of the season for the Super Late Models will be October 3rd at CNS when Challenge CUP XLI returns to Colorado National Speedway.

Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stocks

Curtis Heldenbrand in the black and green #9 car jumped out to the early lead in the Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stocks 25 lap feature event. Heldenbrand led for several laps until he was swallowed up by #3 Michael Cox and #32 Brett Yackey who were battling for the Super Stock season championship. Cox would need some help as he trailed Yackey by 20 points heading into the event. One might think Yackey would be satisfied to let Cox take the win and play it safe to secure the championship but that’s not the style of the “Maverick”. Yackey pulled along side Cox and the two battled for the lead as they moved into lapped traffic.

Eventually Yackey would take control of the race and go on to win the race and the 2015 Super Stock Championship following last years Pure Stock Championship. It was a dominating year for Yackey who won all but one Super Stock feature events on the 2015 season.

Behind Yackey and Cox in the feature was #9 Curtis Heldenbrand from Arvada, #30 Jared Keener out of Westminster, and #89 Chuck Kilpatrick from Brighton.

Impressive rookie Jax Hughes from Lakewood in the #51 car took home the 2015 rookie of the year honors in the Super Stocks.

Galitz Trucking Mod Coupes

Coming into the final points race Jamie Trengove (formerly Bubak) would need to make up 8 points on rookie driver Rick Duckworth in order to win her second consecutive Galitz Trucking Mod Coupe track championship. And that’s exactly what she did taking the championship by just 1 point over Randy Whitman. While Trengove led almost the entire race by a wide margin Whitman came storming towards the front in the final stages of the race. On the final corner of the final lap Whitman pulled along side Trengove and won the race by just a couple feet.

The win completed the sweep of the event for Whitman winning the feature, fast dash, and setting quick time. And it nearly won Whitman the championship finishing just 1 point shy. The dramatic finish in the race proved to be the most exciting race of the night.

Taylor Bellamy and Stephanie Brown entered the final points race with the lead in the Witthar Racing Trains season standings but bad luck and a broken down train gave them a last place finish. The only other Train with a shot at the championship was Jared Wall and Kelly Villers who rode a completely blown left front tire to victory circle. In a shower of sparks and smoke the Train season came to an end with Wally and Kelly winning the Championship in the Last Call Train.
