June 18th, 2022
Tower’s Night Out was presented by Denver West Towing along with Dedicated Towing and Recovery, two longtime friends and generous sponsors of Colorado National Speedway. Thankfully, it was a night of (mostly) clean racing, making for a great show at CNS under the lights on Saturday, June 19th.
Matco Tools Pro Trucks
Feature – 30 Laps
The bright yellow No. 7 truck of Adam Deines led the 13-truck field to the green flag, while the No. 65E of Chris Eggleston broke out behind him. A good battle for third place shaped up between the No. 22 of Brian Yackey, the No. 34 of Rudy Vanderwal, and the No. 33 of Tyler Davis while Deines held down the front of the field. However, the battle didn’t last long, as Vanderwal’s No. 34 slowed off the pace, prompting a caution flag. The ensuing restart saw the No. 65 of Eggleston start alongside the No. 7 of Deines, and this time, Eggleston leapt out front while Deines tried to make the high line work. The No. 22 of Yackey surged past, though, and found some speed as he shot past the No. 9 of Curtis Heldenbrand and Deines in the No. 7, taking over the second position. He set his sights on Eggleston in the No. 65E. The two trucks battled hard for a handful of laps, with Yackey all over the rear bumper of Eggleston’s machine, searching for his chance. With four laps left, the No. 90 of Chasen Groff slowed in Turn 4, causing another caution. That wasn’t a problem for Eggleston’s No. 65E machine, as he got ahead of Yackey on the restart and didn’t look back, securing the Pro Truck feature win of the night.

Galitz Transportation Late Models
Feature – 30 Laps
The Late Model feature was the Dan Alamaa show, as the red, white and blue No. 8 machine paced the 20-car field to green. He easily took over control of the race when the green flag fell, while a heated battle shaped up for the second position behind him. Just five laps in, the No. 30 of Jeremiah Hill spun out, but he was able to keep it off the racing surface and the race continued under green. Out front, Alamaa navigated lapped traffic as the laps ticked by, but he kept a healthy lead over the No. 51 of Eric Meisner, who snuck into second place. With 13 laps left, the No. 1NE of Troy Whittar made contact with the No. 63 of James Starcher and caused Starcher to spin, but again the race stayed green. Alamaa’s No. 8 led flag-to-flag, capturing the Late Model feature win.

Sunoco Race Fuel Grand American Modifieds
Feature – 30 Laps
The No. 37 of Landon Birney took the green flag from the pole position, but the No. 51 of Kyle Clegg took control early, opening up a lengthy lead over Birney. Meanwhile, the No. 6 of Scotty Scott came to life as he fought for third place. The racing stayed fast and clean while Clegg led, until the No. 9 of CJ Wilson got sideways on the front stretch and spun into the infield. The race stayed green while Scott’s No. 6 machine eked into second place past the No. 37 of Birney. However, Clegg held an insurmountable lead over Scott, and crossed the finish line in first for the Grand American Modified feature win. Much to the fans’ delight, Clegg celebrated in iconic fashion by climbing the front stretch fence.

Fast Dash: No. 9, CJ Wilson
Quick Time: No. 51, Kyle Clegg 16.858
Rock N Roll Brewery Pure Stocks
Feature – 25 Laps
Twenty-six Pure Stock race cars took the green flag, led by the No. 02 of Chan Raley, but it didn’t take long for the No. 22 of AJ Hill to make the pass for the first position. Hill opened a comfortable lead while the large pack bashed and slammed behind him. The first caution, however, occurred when the No. 38 of Colton Green spun out in Turn 4 all by himself. On the restart, the No. 22 of Hill and the No. OH7 of Dave Wheeler started up front. Just a few laps later, the polesitter No. 02 machine of Raley was involved in a multicar incident at the apex of Turn 3 and Turn 4, slowing the field once again. Wheeler’s No. OH7 continued to lead, while Hill’s No. 22 machine made a charge for the front with the No. 34 of Ronald Johnson behind him. The No. 76 of Russell Darnell and No. 38 of Green were involved in another incident in Turn 3. Meanwhile, the No. OH7 of Wheeler maintained a healthy lead, despite hitting lapped traffic. With four laps left, the No. 76 of Darnell spun on the back stretch, but the field stayed green; just a few laps later, the No. OH6 of Mahkrysta Hilton slowed on the front stretch after a tough battle for third. The incidents didn’t affect Wheeler’s lead, and the No. OH7 captured the Pure Stock feature victory by a large margin. The victory marked Wheeler’s first on pavement – he typically races on dirt.
