(08-06-2016 Dacono, CO) Amazing action in every division was the highlight of the night during Whelen Lights It Up Night at CNS. A four truck battle for the win was captured by Adam Deines from Longmont in the Pro Truck division, David Robinson muscled his way to the victory in the Pure Stocks and Jereme Wall won his 8th straight Figure 8 feature after coming from the rear of the field 3 separate times.
Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks
The 30 lap Pro Truck feature was one of the most incredible displays of driving ability witnessed at the CNS 3/8ths mile paved oval in a long, long, time. #7 Adam Deines, #43 Kody Vanderwal, #2 AJ Warren, and #1 Jay Fields all ran in a tight pack of 4 trucks for nearly the entire race. The 4 trucks were so close together it appeared as if they were still in their double-file lineup position yet at full speed. Lap after lap the tracuks were glued together with none of the drivers being able to shake the others. Deines was using the outside lane to perfection but could never clear the young Vanderwal who was fast down low. And if either of the top two trucks bobbled Warren and Fields were right there to pounce and steal the lead.
Late in the race bad luck struck Fields who’s truck broke down in a cloud of smoke. This gave opportunity to #5 Troy Whittar who joined the battle for the lead.
As the laps wound down none of the drivers were giving an inch yet were all racing clean making for a thrilling race for the fans. On the final corner Deines and Vanderwal made contact as the checkered flag was in sight but Deines held on to take the win and Vanderwal made a brilliant save for second place to salvage what could have been a disaster. Warren finished 3rd and maintained his point lead in the standings. Witthar finished an impressive 4th and #34 Rudy Vanderwal took home the final spot in the top 5.

Lincoln College Pure Stocks
A fantastic field of 23 Lincoln College of Technology Pure Stocks took the green flag for a 25 lap feature event. #98 Natalie Phelps from Cheyenne was the leader in the early stages of the race. Unfortunately for Phelps she would spin after slight contact with #7 David Robinson and give up her lead. #8 David Lewis also took a turn leading but eventually it was Robinson who would use the inside line to grab the top spot.

Robinson’s biggest challenge came from #33 Tyler Davis who literally did all he could to get by for the win. Late in the race Davis made a daring pass to take the lead but Robinson muscled his way back by a half a lap later in the midst of heavy lapped traffic. The battle for the lead and the action all over the track proved once again that the Pure Stocks are one of the most exciting divisions at the track.
Robinson went on to take his 2nd win of the 2016 season. Davis settled for 2nd but maintains his points lead in the season standings. In 3rd was #31 Michael Matthiesen from Dacono, 4th went to #21 Jamie Ward from Denver, and 5th place went to #8 David Lewis from Firestone.

The Legend cars prepare to take the green flag (Starr photo)
On Whelen “Lights it Up” night the Legend cars ran two feature events of 20 and 25 laps respectively. In the first feature Danny Medina in the #15 car came from the 2nd row and jumped out to a huge lead. Chris Eggleston was running a distant 2nd but began to chew away at Medina’s large lead lap after lap. It looked as if Eggleston was about to make a move on the leader when father and son team of #03 Darrel L Stewart and #30 Darrel J Stewart spun in turn 3 bringing out the caution flag. On the restart Eggleston was hung out to dry on the outside and lost two positions to #66 Kyle Clegg and #6 Scotty Scott. Clegg went right after Medina and gave him a little tap coming out of turn 4 allowing Clegg to make the pass for the lead. Clegg hung on to take the victory in the first feature but that would put him deep in the field as the top 10 finishers from the first race would be inverted in the final 25 lap feature.

In the 2nd feature it was Chris Eggleston in the #22 car that took an early lead coming from his 7th place starting spot but it wouldn’t be long until Danny Medina would use the inside groove to take the lead for himself. Medina and Eggleston continued to battle for position while Kyle Clegg and #21 Ryan Jones had their own tussle going on for 3rd and 4th.
Later in the race Eggleston and Medina traded the lead 3 times all within the span of 1 complete circuit of the race track which had the entire CNS crowd on the edge of their seats. Meanwhile Clegg cleared Jones and Scotty Scott for 3rd place and rocketed towards the leaders to contend for the top spot with Eggleston and Medina. The top cars put on a fabulous 3-way race to the finish.

Chick-Fil-A Figure 8s
While it’s true that Jereme Wall in the #15 Figure 8 car has won every feature event in 2016 none have been more improbable than how he won on Whelen Engineering Light’s it Up Night at CNS. Wall came from the rear of the field 3 times to eventually win the race. Wall started at the rear of the field and worked his way near the front to challenge #67 Keith Swenson, #10 Frank Gastineau and several other cars but spun in the X and was sent to the rear once again.
Wall would then make it to the front only to make hard contact with Swenson in the X sending Jereme to the pits under caution to fix a flat tire. Luckily for Jereme he returned to the racing surface just in time to catch the green flag but found himslef yet again at the rear of the field.

At this stage in the race it seemed like it would be #50 Justin McKeechie or #52 Jared Wall’s night as the two battled hard for the lead. However late in the race the two cars made contact coming out of turn 4 and spun handing the lead over to #9 Brent Cave. This yellow flag also gave Jereme Wall the break he was looking for and blew blast Cave just after the restart to win his 8th straight Figure 8 feature event.
The scariest moment of the race came on the final lap as Justin McKeechie’s throttle stuck and he slammed hard into the pit entrance wall also collecting #5 Curtis Chavez and #52 Jared Wall in the crash. All the drivers were shaken but okay.
