October 5, 2024 (Dacono, CO)
Colorado National Speedway always puts on a Halloween celebration to end all holiday festivities. On Saturday, October 5th, 2024, every single one of our competitors set their differences aside and parked in the center of the racetrack for our annual Trick or Treat event with the drivers, handing out candy and chatting with our costume-clad fans before the races started. The race cars were joined by a couple cars from Drift Colorado, a handful of sleek, morbid hearses, and some Colorado State Patrol, Dacono Police, Mountain View Fire, and our towing crews, Dedicated Towing & Recover, plus Denver West Towing to share in the festivities. Our drivers handed out hundreds of pounds of candy. Once the creative costumers cleared the track, we got right to business, crowning our 2024 Bandolero and Legend Champions, while the Pure Stocks/Super Stocks, Trains, and Figure 8 racers headed out for one last turn on the asphalt before the offseason.
Check out how it all played out if you missed it, or revisit the action below if you need something to tide you over until next season!

Feature – 30 Laps
Whenever our PS/SS divisions share a track, it’s sure to be a chaotic treat. Thirty-eight race cars took the green flag, headed by the No. 32 of Rick Phillips and the No. 61 of John Humphrey. Humphrey got to the point, surviving light contact with a competitor to lead the first lap. Already, the pack fanned out three- and four-wide from fifth place on back with just one circuit in the books. By Lap 3, the No. 75 of Emilio Abeyta had shouldered his way inside Phillips to take third, and the field was so large, just four laps in, the leaders were already faced with lapped traffic. They kept their noses clean and stayed out of trouble, and the No. 32Y of Brett Yackey even took advantage of slower traffic to work his way into P3, muscling past the No. 82 of Ian Clark in the middle of all those cars. The No. 11W of Scott Long followed him through and tried to take his spot away, but fell short. Then, smoke began to show from the rear end of Yackey’s machine, but he kept after it and didn’t surrender his position. Emilio Abeyta, meanwhile, picked off lapped traffic one by one with sights on Humphrey out front, but before he could make a move, Yackey’s race car finally gave up as smoke billowed from the rear end. He safely guided it off the racetrack, and officials elected to throw a caution flag to ensure no oil had fouled the racing surface.
The race restarted on Lap 17, pitting Emilio Abeyta and Humphrey against one another up front. The No. 49H of Adam Hilton took it three-wide, making contact with Long and Clark, sending the No. 5W of Troy Witthar spinning as part of the mix. His race car sustained enough damage to necessitate a hook, and the race was red flagged as he was hauled off the racing surface.
Emilio Abeyta lunged ahead of Humphrey when the race restarted, while Clark slowed with heavy smoke from an apparent tire rub. Humphrey took his lead back, leaving Emilio Abeyta to do battle against Long for P2. Clark finally pulled off the racing surface to address the damage to his race car. Long demoted Emilio Abeyta, while the No. 9 of Brent Cave suddenly emerged in the conversation for P3 and charged past Long to claim second. Emilio Abeyta fell back, fighting off the No. 50C of Chris Cox for fourth. With six laps left, the No. 15 of Brendan Knowles snapped around, but cleared traffic without incident. Up front, Cave caught Humphrey for the lead, pressuring him as he herded him into lapped traffic. Humphrey, forced into a suboptimal position, had to swing wide around lapped cars, but it slowed him up enough to give Cave the opening he needed to finally claim the lead. He wasn’t home free yet, though – on the last lap, Cave got loose in Turn 2, allowing Humphrey to get beside him and nearly snag the win away from him. At the line, Cave lunged ahead and barely claimed the victory over Humphrey. The top two were separated by just 0.375 seconds. Meanwhile, Phillips, who finished seventh overall, was the highest finishing PS driver, and therefore, the division’s winner of the night.

Fast Feature 1 – 15 Laps
With a championship on the line, the LEG field hit the track for its Fast Feature event. The No. 78C of Colton Crocker jumped ahead on the start with the No. 99S of Tanner Scarberry in hot pursuit, but before they could get up to speed, the No. 88F of Cade Fox spun around, drawing a yellow flag and resetting the field. This time, Crocker held steady and jumped into the lead with the No. 22 of Chris Eggleston and the No. 15 of Danny Medina pressuring him on the inside line. Eggleston looked to the inside of Crocker and completed the pass on Lap 4, and the field filtered into a single file line behind him. Eggleston gapped Crocker with Medina in third, but Medina almost surrendered his position as he had to chase the back end of his loose race car. Scarberry looked to the lowermost lane, searching for a way around Medina, demoting him with three laps left. The No. 00 of Chris Saykally ditched the No. 03 of Darrell L. Stewart and the No. 6 of Scotty Scott, slotting in fourth. Up front, Eggleston continued to put on a clinic and crossed under the flag stand in sole possession of the lead.
Feature – 15 Laps
Preston Nakayama guided his No. 48 machine to the front in short order, fending off a charge from the No. 27 of Brian Harlow, who slipped into P2 ahead of the No. 35 driven by Andrew Lee. Harlow saved his race car even after it got loose while running second, and stayed ahead of the competition while he was at it. Nakayama stayed out front until the right front tire on the No. 8 of Jason Schmerse let go; he kept it off the wall but needed to be hauled off, and the race was slowed under caution. On the restart, Nakayama started alongside Harlow and quickly got to the point again. Harlow settled in behind him but stayed glued to his rear bumper as he chased the Nakayama around the track. Lee dove inside the No. 38 of Garrett Wilson, capturing third with only a few laps left on the board. However, after the checkers dropped and postrace inspection, and Wilson was declared the winner.
Fast Feature 2 – 30 Laps
Just 30 laps remained in the 2024 LEG season to determine the winner, and the championship race was tight between Medina and the No. 68 of Wyatt Dent. The No. 1 of Ryan Land started on the front row next to the No. 45 of Cole Tuttle. Land attempted to take control of the race but fell in behind Scott, who ended up leading Lap 1. Scarberry guided his race car to the inside of Land to take second place as Medina charged into third place while Dent was stalled out mid-pack. Scott tapped his brakes a little too hard heading into Turn 1 on Lap 8 and opened the door for Scarberry to take the lead, while Crocker passed Medina for third. By Lap 11, the leaders had already caught the tail end of the field and had to split slower traffic as they continued their battle; Crocker pressured Scott for P2 and quickly overtook him. Eggleston, meanwhile, had powered into fifth place and continued to stalk the leaders for a shot at the race lead.
Scarberry, mired in heavy traffic, continued to lead the race, stalked by Crocker, Medina, and Eggleston. Crocker closed the distance in short order, leading Medina and Eggleston in a tight nose-to-tail formation as they circled the track. Eggleston picked off Medina for third on Lap 18, while Crocker kept his race car matted and charged after Scarberry. Dodging traffic, Crocker finally caught up to Scarberry with Eggleston right there, looking for his shot at the lead. Eggleston delivered a shot to Crocker’s rear bumper in Turn 3, which sent him rocketing toward Scarberry up front, although Scarberry dodged through lapped traffic and began to lay some distance down as clear track opened up in front of him. However, he quickly caught up to traffic again and his lead vanished, allowing Crocker and Eggleston to go side-by-side as they rode right up on him. Eggleston used the lapped traffic to make short work of Crocker while Scarberry used up every corner of the racetrack trying to keep them behind him. Eggleston wore out Scarberry’s bumper up front, but he was running out of laps to make something happen, and he knew it. Scarberry shot up the track with a slight bump from Eggleston, which allowed Crocker to follow on his bumper. Eggleston powered into the lead as he passed over the stripe to take the win and swept both Features in epic fashion. Medina, who finished fourth over Dent’s 13th-place result, earned enough points to secure the 2024 LEG championship and become a five-time LEG champion.

Outlaw Feature 1 – 12 Laps
Aspyn Lange’s No. 12 and the No. 60 of Liam Hammond started on the front row, but a push from the No. 5 of Reagan Fruge shot Lange into the front. Hammond battled back on the inside and took second place, pulling the No. 08 of Tanner McKim through with him. Even as the No. 89 of Justin Barnard spun out and cleared traffic, Lange extended her lead over Hammond and swept around the short half-track to take the Feature win, extending her hold on the championship points lead as well.
Outlaw Feature 2 – 12 Laps
Lange and Hammond hit the track once again in a tight race for the championship. The No. 23 of Peyton Opperman and McKim held down the front row as they headed to the green flag, and behind them, the pack beat and banged as they went nearly three wide. McKim filtered into the lead, but quickly found himself under attack from Hammond. McKim went for a spin before the battle heated up, allowing Lange to cut the distance on Hammond, who inherited the race lead. She and Hammond nearly slammed together but kept their race cars clear of one another; she briefly overtook him before he battled back and reclaimed the top spot. But not for long – Lange powered through and once again took the lead with the No. 61 of Lillian Tuttle holding down third (at least until she spun out but cleared traffic). Up front, Lange continued to drive a clean race. Nothing would stand in her way as she made the final circuits out front, securing the race win and the overall 2024 Outlaw championship, just one year after winning the Bandits title.
Bandit Feature 1 – 10 Laps
Six cars followed the No. 14 of Austin Steinke and the No. 95J of Jaxon Muhler to the green flag. Muhler surged into the lead with Steinke in close quarters, but then Muhler spun out, leaving Steinke to inherit the lead with the No. 07 of Madison Stanley close behind. Steinke continued to lead over Stanley, extending his advantage with each passing lap. He raced cleanly and snagged the victory.
Bandit Feature 2 – 10 Laps
The No. 98 of Kyleigh Novak and the No. 44 of Emersyn Weitzel started on the front row, and Steinke took it three wide in his quest for the top spot up front on Lap 1. Weitzel denied Steinke the chance to lead the first lap. Weitzel continued to lead, but got together with Steinke, who nearly spun out and allowed Muhler to take the lead. Steinke recovered and took back second place; Weitzel plummeted and fell in behind Stanley. Muhler was untouchable and opened a generous lead over his competitors, even as Steinke tried to track him down. Muhler flashed across the line to win the race, while Steinke wheeled his race car to the championship win.
Bandit Jr. Feature 1 – 7 Laps
After a botched start, the field of nine Bandit Jr. cars followed the No. 72 of Connor Kellogg around the track as he filed into the race lead. The No. 84 of Kaylie Snyder made a move for second place and overtook the No. 24 of Ayva Snyder, setting out after Kellogg. However, the slower lapped cars suddenly became an obstacle for Kellogg in the closing laps, allowing Kaylie Snyder to snag the lead. She never looked back, driving right up front for the rest of the race and taking the checkered flag.
Bandit Jr. Feature 2 – 7 Laps
Kaylie Snyder started on the front row to defend her earlier race win, starting alongside the No. 42 of Lee Malavasic. The No. 09 of Cody Bergren passed Malavasic and Kaylie Snyder. Putting the pedal to the metal, Bergren took off with the lead, until his race car got loose and sent him for a spin from the top spot. Kaylie Snyder took advantage of his misfortune and took command of the race once more. She never looked back and paced the field on her way to the win.

Feature – 25 Laps
Fourteen Figure 8 racers hit the track for one final 25-lap turn this season, headed by the No. 74 of Sam Faus and the No. 3 of Michael Wolfe. Faus galloped into the lead as soon as he saw the snap of the green flag, followed by the No. 52 Of Jared Wall, the No. 20 of Isaiah Proctor, and the No. 38 of Javon Barnard. Wolfe, however, spun out, while Wall and Barnard just about took each other out vying for the lead, but both of them charged past Faus. The No. 17 of Harry Livermore Jr. sliced past Faus as Wall took command of the race despite front end damage on his machine, but his troubles were far from over. Wall shot wide to avoid a lapped car and nearly clipped the port-a-potties that had been placed in the infield for the Trick or Treat event with the drivers before the races started – but he peeled his race car out of the way just in time. Unfortunately, the front end damage on his race car proved too much to race with, and he and Barnard both retired on Lap 5, turning the lead over to Proctor. Almost as soon as he had command, Proctor made contact with Wolfe, but they bounced apart and kept going without a yellow flag.
Livermore took over P2 and started cutting into Proctor’s lead. Proctor stayed out front as action in The X began to heat up, as did lapped traffic interference. Proctor got held up behind a lapped car and barely held off Livermore, while the No. 67 of Kylan Swenson spun out from third place, but calmly gathered it back up and kept going. Still leading by a hair, Proctor narrowly missed clipping Wolfe in The X and lost the lead to Livermore in the process. Before Livermore could set sail, the No. 8 of Cassidy Creekmore made contact with Swenson, triggering a caution.
Proctor regained his lead when the green flag fell, even as Wolfe spun out while taking the restart, but he got his race car pointed back in the right direction. Livermore didn’t give up his quest for the lead, holding onto Proctor’s bumper as they shot around the F8 course. The No. 13, driven by Frank Gastineau, barely tagged Livermore’s back end as they crossed paths, but both drivers were able to keep going. Livermore hung onto Proctor up front as Faus lost his race car right in front of the leaders. They managed to stay clear of him and kept going as race cars filled every corner of the twisting F8 course. Livermore pulled out all the stops to try and get around Proctor as the leaders once again encountered lapped traffic on the final circuit. Proctor defended the top spot with ease and crossed under the flagstand for his first-ever win in the division, following in the tire tracks of his father, Lance Proctor.

Take 5 Oil Change Trains
Feature – 7 Laps
The No. 86 Last Call and No. 3 Anger Management pulled the seven-Train field to the green flag, but it would be the No. 41G J&H Livestock Funny Farm who emerged to lead the first lap. The No. 80HD SNAFU followed hot on their heels, trying everything to get by, but couldn’t find enough purchase on the track to make it stick. Anger Management stalled out heading into The X, but managed to get it started up again and rejoined the flow of traffic. Funny Farm kept up their lead as SNAFU continued to give them hell; Funny Farm even clipped a competitor heading to the checkers, but the real action hit after the checkered flag dropped. After Funny Farm won, they struck the side door of the No. 151 Crazy Train, but it didn’t matter – they were already the victors.
Feature: No. 41G, J&H Livestock Funny Farm
United Power Demo X
The Demo X racers also wrapped up their 2024 titles in epic fashion. And speaking of Demo X Heavy, two pickups rolled during the race, but thanks to the quick work of our track crews, the drivers were able to exit their vehicles under their own power.
Lite Winner: No. 8, Mari Jane Carlson
Heavy Winner: No. 11, Chris Aynes
Lite Champion: No. 15, Sean Frank
Heavy Champion: No. 31, Dave Johnson
