(09-01-2012 Dacono, CO) The 2-Day Labor Day Spectacular at Colorado National Speedway started off with a bang when crowd favorite Harry Livermore Jr. won a very exciting Figure 8 main event. Mike Gallegos held off a charging Kye Clegg to win the Legend main. Justin Simonson took the Pro Truck feature and Jeff Walbaum was victorious in the Sportsman division.
Jeff Walbaum narrowed the season points chase to 21 on current leader Lee Kemmit by leading all 30 laps of the Sportsman main event. Jeff also won the FAST DASH which earned him an additional 3 points. Walbaum's recent success in the division have certainly made the championship points race more interesting as it appeared early in the season that Lee Kemmit was going to run away with his second consecutive championship. On night one of the Labor Day Spectacular at CNS the black #8 of Walbaum started on the outside of row one and demonstrated that he was the car to beat leading the entire race and at times building a large lead on 2nd place. The best battle on the track was the #84 of Bruce Borchardt and the #98 of Lee Kemmit who traded paint lap after lap for almost the entire race. Kemmit took the inside line on Borchardt but Bruce wasn't giving any ground and at the finish Borchardt nabbed 2nd place from Kemmit by mere inches. An impressive run for the #41 of Dale Reeder who hung with the leaders all night and finished in 4th position. Wade Grove in the #3 finished 5th and strong efforts from #58 Jeff Webb, #85 Kaden Webb, and #67 Stephanie Brown claiming 6th, 7th, and 8th.
FAST DASH: #8 Jeff Walbaum
DASH: #97 Adam Gastineau
QUICK TIME: #84 Bruce Borchardt 17.694
The Pro Truck division has produced some of the most dramatic crashes in recent memory and in the DASH #29 Matthew Brunker flipped up on his side against the back straight wall and slid all the way into turn 3. Brunker's dramatic crash came just two weeks after Billy Harkins flipped down the front straight in one of the most wild spills in CNS history. Thankfully in both cases the drivers were uninjured which is a testament to the great safety equipment on these Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks. The Trucks have also proved to be one of the more competitive divisions at CNS featuring 6 different main event winners to date. Night one of the Labor Day Spectacular at CNS highlighted this competitive division when #31 Justin Simonson and #7 Adam Deines battled side by side for dozens of laps bringing the CNS crowd to the edge of the their seat. Simonson took the win followed by Deines and as the season winds down the top 5 in points are #27 Roger Avants (342), #31 Justin Simonson (313), #36 Matt Burton (284), #07 Chris Leaf (280), and #5 Troy Witthar (277).

Excitement filled the air in the RMRLA Legend division as a national qualifying event brought out a huge field of 27 cars. It was clear early on that the fastest four cars on the track were #06 Mike Gallegos, #58 Kyle Ray, #66 Kyle Clegg, and #22 Chris Eggleston. Eggleston, Ray, and Clegg all took turns running hard in 2nd place behind Gallegos who seems to have mastered a smooth low line on the CNS oval. It appeared for a time that Clegg might be able to overtake Gallegos for the lead as Clegg would dive into each corner in dramatic fashion but the smooth style of Gallegos would help him exit the corner remaining in the top spot. The skill of both drivers created a fantastic race for the lead. At the finish it was Gallegos, Clegg, Eggleston, and Ray. A strong run for #13 Pete Dellarco coming in 5th, rookie Ryan Jones in the #21 took 6th, #47 David Hondel was 7th, and making the long trip from Laguna Beach California Ryan Cansdale finished 8th in the yellow #37y Legend car.
FAST DASH: #06 Mike Gallegos
DASH: #46 Zach Witherwax
QUICK TIME: #66 Kyle Clegg 18.727
The title sponsor of the evenings event was A Comfort Shack who is also the title sponsor of the Figure 8 division at CNS and a full field of cars lined up for a 25 lap main event. #17 Harry Livermore Jr. was looking fast and maintained the lead for the early stages of the race, yet Harry wasn't alone as he had #23 "Big" Al Duran all over his bumper lap after lap. The usual suspects #86 "Squirrely" Shirley Thompson and #10 Frank Gastineau were slipping through the X within mere inches of other cars thrilling the CNS faithful. To the pleasure of the crowd the half black, half pink #17 of Livermore was able to hold off Duran, #90 John Johnson, #24 Joe Martinez, and #26 Nick Martinez to take his first main event win at CNS.
FAST DASH: #26 Nick Martinez
