#12 Bruce Yackey battles #95m Cris Muhler for the lead (Starr photo)
(08-11-2012 Dacono CO) Not even Mother Nature could slow down Greeley Colorado's Bruce Yackey when he cruised to his third straight Gillett Vet Late Model main event victory after a long rain delay at Colorado National Speedway. When the rain finally stopped and the track was dried the fans were treated to great racing from the Supermodifieds, Legends, Super Stocks, Late Models and the Figure 8s.
Gillett Vet Late Models
Coming into the Rinnai Night at CNS the Gillett Vet Late Models had a three week break from the action and #12 Bruce "the moose" Yackey had won the pervious two feature events in the division. Yackey's point lead increased at the start of the main as bad luck hit 2nd place in points #31 Rick Smith. The leaders "checked up" in turn two causing a chain reaction which eventually collected Smith causing a fair amount of front end damage. #55 Jesse Runkle also sustained damage in the altercation, yet both Smith and Runkle continued racing minus large portions of their body work. A scary moment for #6 Dominic Ursetta on lap 13 when his right front tire blew and sent him hard into the turn 1 wall. Dominic was uninjured but his day was done. At the halfway point in the race Yackey was out front with #95m Cris Muhler pressuring him for the lead and last year's track champion #74 Dan "the savage man" Savage making his presence felt in 3rd place. When the checkered flag dropped it was Yackey claiming his third win in a row. Muhler held on for 2nd, Savage was 3rd, #7 Adam Deines came in 4th and #84 Matt Zwingelberg filled in 5th.

NTC Logistics Super Stocks
Michael Cox has been the car to beat in the NTC Logistics Super Stock division in 2012 and it didn't take the blue #3 long to jump out into the lead at the start of the 25 lap main event. Cox rode unchallenged until just passed the halfway mark when #46 Lightning Rick Lothert worked his way into 2nd place and began to reel in Cox. The racing behind the leaders was intense as #71 Harry Livermore Jr., #61 John Humphrey, #90 Kyle Patee, #6x Josh Parker and #13 Jason Morris were all trading paint while battling for position. The race ended in dramatic fashion as Lothert dove low on Cox grabbing the win. Humphrey also got by Cox to take 2nd position. Cox hung on for 3rd and Josh Parker took 4th, #90 Kyle Pattee rounded out the top 5.
FAST DASH WINNER: #61 John Humphrey
DASH WINNER: #02 Darrell Smith
QUICK TIME: #3 Michael Cox 19.712
RMLRA Legend Cars
Last years rookie of the year in the Legend division #85 Cole MacEwen paced the field for a 25 lap main event and his teammate #58 Kyle Ray was right along side. Yet on the first lap there was contact in turn 3 and several cars were involved in a minor altercation. Both MacEwen and the #21 of Ryan Jones suffered damage to their vehicles. The race was marred with several early caution flags and a rather large cleanup but once the race got going the drivers put on a good show for the fans. Clearly the most exciting aspect of the race was watching the #22 of Chris Eggleston as he blazed a trail up through the field after ending up at the rear of the field on one of the early yellow flags. Eggleston made daring passes high and low and amazingly grabbed an impressive 3rd place finish. Ray went on to win followed by #66 Kyle Clegg.
FAST DASH WINNER: #22 Chris Eggleston
DASH WINNER: #78 Brittany Duncan
QUICK TIME: #66 Kyle Clegg 18.842
ERA Supermodifieds
Late Model and Pro Truck ace Roger "the ice man" Avants surprised the CNS crowd as he hopped into the gorgeous #1 Supermodified and ran with the ERA Supermodifieds for the night. However it was his teammates #2 Richie Castor Jr. and #3 Harold Evans who amassed a huge lead on the field. Evans battled with Castor for a few laps but on this night it was all Richie Castor Jr as he expertly navigated slower traffic and took the checkered flag.
FAST DASH WINNER: #3 Harold Evans
QUICK TIME: #2 Richie Castor Jr. 14.529
A Comfort Shack Figure 8s
In what proved to be one of the more entertaining races of the night the Figure 8s thrilled there crowd with dozens of close calls in the X and a great race for the lead between #15 Jereme Wall, #24 Joe Martinez, and #90 John Johnson. On lap 12 Jereme Wall tried to hold off the charging Martinez and dove into turn 1 in dramatic fashion, Wall couldn't keep control of the car and spun which brought out the first caution and ended Jereme's chance at the win. After the restart 2nd place Johnson also spun and he found himself at the rear of the field on the subsequent restart. After the white flag flew #26 Nick Martinez dove low on #24 Joe Martinez and as they entered the turn there wasn't enough room for the two of them to make it through and Nick sent Joe spinning. Since the white flag had already been displayed the next flag has to be the checkered therefore #50 Juston Mackeachie was awarded the win after Nick Martinez was penalized for the maneuver. Johnson was 2nd, #20 Lance Proctor took third, #23 Al Duran was 4th and #17 Harry Livermore Jr. was 5th.
FAST DASH WINNER: #26 Nick Martinez
DASH WINNER: #90 John Johnson
