(Dacono, CO - 04-21-2012) The Gillett Vet Late Models made their 2012 season debut and the large crowd at Colorado National Speedway were treated to one of the best night's of racing in years. Chris Eggleston, Bruce Yackey, Roger Avants, and Rick Smith, all crossed the finish line within feet of one another with Eggleston just barely out in front taking the victory.

Gillett Vet Late Models
Gillett Vet Late Model action at CNS 04-21-2012 (Starr photo)An incredible field of Late Models was on hand to open the 2012 Gillett Vet Late Model season at Colorado national Speedway. Multi time champions #12 Bruce Yackey took the early lead with #27 Roger "the ice man" Avants in tow. Youngsters #22 Chris Eggleston and #11 Darren Robertson held 3rd and 4th but #31 Rick Smith was working his way to front in a furious pace. Eggleston worked his way passed Avants for 2nd and began to track down race leader Yackey.

With less than 10 laps to go Yackey, Eggleston and Smith were running nose to tail and while it seemed that Smith may have had the fastest car he wasn't able to overtake either Eggleston or Yackey.

With just 6 laps to go the yellow flag came out setting up a 6 lap shoot out bringing the large CNS crowd to their feet. Yackey elected to take the inside on the restart and Eggleston was along side. In the final laps of the race the top 4 drivers thrilled the fans running within inches of one another. Eggleston was edging Yackey on the outside through the corners yet each lap Yackey would pull up along side Chris on the front straight. The top four cars crossed the finish line in a tight pack and it was the black and orange #22 of Chris Eggleston taking the win, followed closely by #12 Bruce Yackey, #27 Roger Avants, #31 Rick Smith, and #39 Jack Nugent rounded out the top 5.

#12 Jason Morris edges #3 Michael Cox for the Super Stock mainNTC Logistics Super Stocks
#3 Michael Cox led the first 19 laps of the Super Stock main event but a late race caution flag setup a classic CNS style double file restart. On the restart #13 "Racin" Jason Morris and Cox raced side by side until Morris finally secured the lead just in time to take the win. Cox came in 2nd, #61 John Humphry was 3rd, #88 David Rothrock was 4th and surprising rookie 6x Josh Parker was 5th.

#66 Kyle Cleggs battles eventual winner #06 Mike GallegosRMLRA Legend Cars
There was a wild start to the Legend main event when car #21 Ryan Jones and #44 Kevin Kurtz made contact coming out of turn 2 sending Kurtz upside down and end over end down the back straightaway. A nervous crowd cheered in relief when it was announced that Kevin was okay, sadly his car suffered major damage. After the restart last years champ #66 Kyle Clegg grabbed the lead but #06 Mike Gallegos was not about to let him run away with the race and hounded him lap after lap. Behind Clegg and Gallegos a great battle for 3rd place heated up between #58 Kyle Ray, #22 Chris Eggleston and #08 Jace Hanson held 5th spot. With 7 laps to go race leader Clegg bobbled coming out of turn 2 and #06 Mike Gallegos assumed the lead. Gallegos was able to masterfully navigate lapped traffic and took the checkered flag. #66 Clegg barely held off 3rd place #58 Ray for 2nd while #22 Eggleston was a close 4th and #08 Jace Hanson was 5th.

Figure 8 winner Joe Martinez (Starr photo)A Comfort Shack Figure 8s

John Martello had the pole position in the A Comfort Shack Figure 8's in his green and black Camaro but it was last years Figure 8 champ #24 Joe Martinez who quickly jumped out to an early lead. After just 5 laps Martinez had built a massive lead over #26 Nick Martinez and #50 Justin Mckeachie. After a few close calls in the "X" Joe cruised to an easy win followed by #50 Justin Mckeachie, #15 Jereme Wall, and #26 Nick Martinez.
