Ronnie Hults Comes From Behind for Another Late Model Victory

(Dacono, CO - 07-23-2011) It was an epic night of 1 on 1 battles at CNS. 5 divisions saw respectable car counts and each division brought the horde of CNS fans to the edge of their seats. The story of the evening comes courtesy of the lightning fast Late Model drivers Dan Savage and Ronnie Hults who wowed fans with a memorable battle for 1st place.

Late Models
For the first quarter of the 40 lapper it looked like it was going to be a race between Paul Deines and Dan Savage for the win. Without warning Ronnie Hults came from behind to pass Deines and challenge Savage for the win. As a wild battle for the lead raged at the front of the field, Roger Avants quietly made his way from 11th place through some serious competition. With only a few laps to go Savage and Hults were duking it out for the win while  Yackey and Avants were engaged in a battle of their own. A nail biting hush fell over the grandstands as Hults rocketed into 1st place and crossed the checkered for the win followed closely by Savage. Paul Deines took 3rd.

Sportsman
It was a clean win for Lee Kemmit who broke away from the pack early on and  just kept building on his lead. The real race was between Tommy Roe and Jeff Walbaum. Lap after grueling lap, it seemed not even a crowbar could separate the two. Finally with only 5 laps to go, Walbaum broke away for 2nd but Roe was unceasing and followed close behind. When the checkered flew, it was Kemmit followed by Walbaum, Roe, Rick Hunt and Bruce Borchardt.

CNS Modifieds (Mod Coupes and Grand American Modifieds)
It was intense as always to watch these 2 open wheel divisions race in tandem. Gary Land took quick control of the lead, little did he know that Cris Muhler was gradually making his way up the field from a start in 7th. After caution brought on by contact between Justin Case and Jeff Hansen, Land and Muhler lined up nice and neat and went at it at the drop of the green flag. Muhler used a single lap to speed to the lead and dominated the remainder of the race taking the overall win and the win for the Mod Coupes. #1 Jay Fields took first place for the Grand American Modifieds.

Pro Trucks
The Trucks put on a fierce show. The race was up front as Avants and Vanderwal locked horns in a multi-lap duel for the lead. Just as Avants found the line past Vanderwal, a spin out by #36 Matt Burton brought on caution. It was deja vu when the green flag flew (no rhyming intended) because Avants and Vanderwal raced door handle to door handle once again. This time around, Simonson dove into the mix making it one of the most intense finishes in CNS Pro Truck racing history. With 3 laps to go it was anyone's race. Avants took the win by a nose followed by Vanderwal, Simonson and Whittar.

Figure 8
The 20 lap figure 8 feature started slow but finished strong. 16 drivers started the race with 6 cars pitting as the race went on, only 3 would return to finish out the feature. Big Al started on the outside of row 1 and lead the event until Smokin' Joe Martinez caught him as the two crossed the start/finish line going into the final lap. As the rivals rounded turn 2, Big Al spun out paving the way for Martinez. Martinez did finish first but the officials had to deliberate to determine the winner. After a minute or so, Martinez was crowed the victor of the event.
