eggleston-pro-truckSunday night concluded the Pepsi Labor Day weekend Shoot Out at Colorado National Speedway. Clear skies ushered in an unforgettable night of racing. The Legends brought 4 different divisions to race in 2 separate features. The Pros and Masters matched up against each other and the Semi Pros raced along side the Young Lions (Legends drivers 16 and under). The winners of tonightís Legend features would take a spot in the Asphalt Nationals in Lanier, GA.

The Super Modifieds rounded up the evening's events, followed by the Sportsman. The Pro Trucks came out to headline the program for their second to last feature of the season. Both Mark Neff and Billy Harkins were riding on the heels of point leader Adam Deines. All we could do was wait (on the edge of our seats) to see what would happen.

Starting off the headlining Pro Truck event, #34 Rudy Vanderwal took the lead and stuck it until #27 Roger Avants pulled around him on the outside. With a start in 6th place, Chris Eggleston advanced through the field taking 2nd over Vanderwal and rode up on the inside of Avants. The two drag raced through 2 laps until Rudy Vanderwal lost it going around turn 4, resulting in a yellow flag. Eggleston took the lead on the restart with #74 Cris Muhler following in tow for 2nd, but contact along the back stretch took Mark Neff out of the race, bringing on yet another yellow flag. Cris Muhler made things interesting on the restart, taking the lead over Eggleston by mere inches. Tragedy struck Muhlerís lead when his car went out with an unknown technical problem, leaving the win wide open for Chris Eggleston! This made it 2 for 2 for Chris Eggleston, who made his Pro Truck debut only two weeks ago.

The Semi Pro and Young Lion Legends kicked the evening off. #39 Kenzie Ruston dominated the clean, 20 lap main event.

Next up was the second to last Supermodified feature of the season. #2 Rick Castor Jr was on hand to defend his point lead. Tied for second in points, #51 Joe Priselac and #8 Larry LaPoint dueled heatedly to take the point advantage for the upcoming season championship. Starting almost dead last, #3 HJ Evans moved up the field so quickly that his ascent into first could have been missed by a spectator in the blink of an eye. At lap 14 Evans and #02 Johnny Pickard approached lapped traffic as #11 Nick Haygood flew up on their outside, taking first with an amazing display of speed. Haygood took the win followed by Evans and Larry LaPoint.

eggleston-mainThe Legend Pros and Masters made it a great battle up front. #187 David Hemrec, #22 Chris Eggleston and #08 Jace Hansen all followed closely behind #69 Jimmy Hansen, swapping positions back and forth until a spin out on the back stretch by point leader #8 Jon Krizman lined them back up for a double file restart. When the race resumed, David Hemrec and Chris Eggleston broke away from the pack for first and second place. Eggleston made quick work of Hemrec, passing him on the inside coming around turn 4 at lap 14. Hemrec didn't let Chris run away with it though! David Hemrec finally made his move at lap 21 as he and Eggleston rode along the front stretch side by side. Not 2 laps later, Hemrec got loose coming through turn 4 and Eggleston took full advantage, passing him to take the win by a nose!

#46 "Blackey" Blackard ran away with the lead from the get go of the 30 lap Sportsman A Main. Going into lap 9, and to the jubilant cheers of the fans, #62 Jim Bob Rogers rode up alongside #99 Nick Brinlee to battle for 2nd place. Rogers came out of the brief duel on top and set his sights on Blackey. A caution lined them back up, but Blackey was unfazed and quickly moved back into a comfortable lead over Jim Bob. Blackey quickly transformed his ìcomfortableî lead into a massive one as Jim Bob and #6 Tommy Roe duked it out for 2nd. Blackey passed the finish line with a 10 car length lead on Jim Bob. Tommy Roe finished 3rd.
