It's Déjà vu for the Whelen NASCAR Knock-Out as Hults and Robertson Each Take Home Another Win.
Sunday, 09 August 2009 13:19
#11 Darren Robertson started the Whelen All American Series NASCAR Knock-Out on the pole for the 1st Rocky’s Autos Late Model A Main. He led the pack until #78 Darren Crocker sped into first after a double file restart. The two duked it out for first until another restart lined them back up again. This time Robertson took the lead and held on to it for his second A Main win in row. Our hats are off to him.
The 2nd Late Model A Main started with #95 Cris Muhler on the pole, #22 Chris Eggleston rode on his outside. They were followed by #42 Ronnie Hults, #78 Darren Crocker and the 1st A Main event winner, Darren Robertson. Contact on the back stretch led to a massive pile up in turn 4. As a result Nugent, Joe James Jr and Fowler all took severe damage and left the event. #95 Cris Muhler was sent to the rear of the field. The carnage wasn’t over. At the next restart Darren Crocker spun out on the back stretch and was also sent to the rear of the field. When the race resumed it was Ronnie Hults who took the lead over Chris Eggleston on the outside. With Hults in the lead, Eggleston and Crocker dueled fender to fender for 2nd. Another spin out was ruled Cris Muhler’s fault and again, he was sent to the rear of the field. Hults, Eggleston and Robertson revved it up for the restart dueling 3 wide at times through 8 laps. The 3 approached lapped traffic going into the next lap and Eggleston pulled into the lead followed by Hults, Robertson and the approaching Roger Avants. It wasn’t time for Eggleston to begin celebrating just yet. The Speedy Ronnie Hults and Darren Robertson were hot on his tail. At lap 35 of this 40 lap A Main, Hults rocketed ahead with Robertson in tow as they both passed Eggleston.
Hults took the win followed by the talented Darren Robertson and Chris Eggleston.
The Sunoco Grand American Modifieds put on a tight race for first with #18 Ed Vecchiarelli, #08 Jace Hansen, #69 Forest Smith and #44 Justin Case dueling for the lead. #95 Dave Finely soon joined the race for first as well. All leading contenders rode bumper to bumper until lap 20 when Hansen broke away from the pack for a 5 car length lead. Hansen held it together for the win followed by Justin Case in 2nd.
The Snap-On Tools Pro Truck A Main started off with stiff competition at the front of the field. Talented drivers #32 Mark Neff, #7 Chris Leaf, #27 Roger Avants and #1 Happy Ferree made up the first two rows but contact on the field during the first lap took #7 Adam Deines out of the race. Happy Ferree was given a black flag. All the commotion put the race on hold as all the contenders left the track to make way for the 2nd Late Model A Main of the evening.
When the race started back up, it had been shortened from 30 to 20 laps. Mark Neff had the pole with Billy Harkins on the outside. Billy took off on the green for a 3 truck length lead over Neff. But a spin out toward the rear of the field lined the two of them back up for a double file restart. At the restart Mark Neff found the line around Harkins for the lead. With only 2 laps to go Neff lost it on the back stretch leaving the race wide open for #07 Chris Leaf.
