Point leader Bruce "the moose" Yackey started on the pole for the 100 lap Rocky's Autos Late Model A Main. 2nd in points, #95 Cris Muhler started in 11th and 3rd in points, #27 Roger Avants had the inside of row 2. 4th in points, speedy Ronnie Hults started in 8th. Bruce Yackey led the first 10, caution-filled laps. Roger Avants stole the lead at lap 11 as a yellow flag flew due to a spin out on the back stretch. Yackey and Avants lined it back up for a double file restart. Yackey took his lead back, but not for long! Avants was sneaking up along the outside and passed him at lap 18. Meanwhile, Hults was patiently moving up the field and took 5th. #57 wrecked at lap 25 when he ran head first into a pile up between turns 2 and 3. Avants, Paul Deines and Eggleston all got hooked up on the restart and blew past Bruce Yackey. It was a 3 car race for first! Avants was able to stick his lead with Eggleston riding close behind. Deines and Speedy Ronnie Hults were 2 car lengths back ready to pounce on the leaders and Robertson was speedily moving up the field. Another spin out brought on more caution lining up the fastest of the fastest for 50 more laps of A Main racing. Eggleston started on the outside of row 1 and ran away with the lead. Ronnie Hults moved up the field via the outside taking 2nd. Another restart saw Hults into the lead. This time he sprouted wings and took off for an 8 car length lead over the rest of the field. Yet another spin out, this time between turns 3 and 4 brought out the red flag. The race resumed with Hults and Eggleston dragging racing as they swapped 1st place back and forth. Chris Eggleston had the lead on a single file restart which sealed his fate as the winner of the 35th annual Snap-On tools, Rocky's Autos Late Model Challenge Cup! Hults finished 2nd, followed by Roger Avants and our season champion #12 Bruce Yackey.

Saturday, September 19th marked the 2nd to last event of the year at Colorado National Speedway. It was the 35th annual Snap-On Tools challenge cup. Over one hundred drivers in 6 different division showed up. Modified Coupes, Super Modified, Figure 8s, Legends and Super Stocks would take to the track for their last night of the 2009 season.

nick-haygoodAll of the ERA super mod guys delivered what was by far, one of their best races of the season at CNS. #11 Nick Haygood started dead last and spent the first 5 laps charging through the field to take 2nd behind #40 Harry Stone. Things changed for the top dogs when Paco Moralles' #14 supermodified blew up. The field lined back up for a single file restart and it was a safe bet that Haygood would take over the lead. This was not the case. Stone took off on the restart, regaining his massive lead in an instant. With his eyes set on another win, Haygood steadily reeled in Harry Stone until the very last moment, finally passing him AT THE FINISH LINE for the win by about 6 inches. Haygood won the race, but Rich Castor Jr took 3rd place along with the season championship! Congrats to our winners Nick Haygood and Rich Castor Jr! We'll see you guys next year.
