Rick Smith holds off Ronnie Hults for his first win of the year at CNS
(Dacono, CO 07-30-2011) Rick Smith and 2010 CNS Champ "Speedy" Ronnie Hults raced side by side, lap after lap bringing the CNS crowd to their feet. Yet it was Rick Smith who proved he knew the fastest line around the 3/8ths mile paved oval as he took his first main event win of the 2011 CNS season.
Gillett Vet Clinic Late Models
One might think that with #42 Speedy Ronnie Hults on the pole position for the late model main event that the race might be all over before it started. However #31 Rick Smith jumped out to an early lead while Hults ran in second. With 22 laps to go #4 Brad Tilton made contact with the front straight wall and slid to a stop in turn one. Tilton was okay but his night was done. #11 Darren Robertson returned to CNS for the first time in 2011 in a beautiful black and silver #11 but spun coming out of two on lap 24 and was narrowly missed by the rest of the field. Smith and Hults ran side by side, lap after lap thrilling the large crowd at CNS, but on this night Rick Smith wasn't going to be denied as he had the fastest line and grabbed his first win of the 2011 season. Hults came in second, #66 Darren Bucklen was third, #74 Dan Savage was fourth, and #91 Chris Atkinson rounded out the top five.
Ronnie Hults Comes From Behind for Another Late Model Victory
(Dacono, CO - 07-23-2011) It was an epic night of 1 on 1 battles at CNS. 5 divisions saw respectable car counts and each division brought the horde of CNS fans to the edge of their seats. The story of the evening comes courtesy of the lightning fast Late Model drivers Dan Savage and Ronnie Hults who wowed fans with a memorable battle for 1st place.
Lee Kemmit's mastery of CNS continues.
PAIR A DICE SPORTSMAN
#8 Jeff Walbaum had the pole at the start of the Sportsman main event at Colorado National Speedway and #84 Bruce Borchardt was outside. Yet it was the rocket-fast #98 Lee Kemmit who quickly worked his way to the front from his 5th place starting position. Lee's GTI teammate #6 Tommy Roe also worked his way past Walbaum and Borchardt and settled into second place. A great race developed for third place between #46 Eric "blackie" Blackard, #8 Jeff Walbaum and #84 Bruce Borchardt which brought the fans to their feet. Tommy Roe began to carve away at Kemmit's lead but it was too little too late as Kemmit took the win followed by Roe, Blackard, Borchardt, and Walbaum.
Rain claims July 9th races at CNS
It was Colorado Transportation night at CNS and all indication was it was going to be a great night of racing. The Late Models were all set to go and a huge field of Legend cars were on hand including recent winner Justin Irwin from New Mexico. Yet Justin would have had his work cut out for him as #15 Danny Medina was also in the pits, as was Tyler Chrisinger in his #12 legend car. The Super Stocks had a good field of cars and the Figure 8's and CNS Modifieds were set to thrill the CNS fans.
Rain started falling right before the first set of qualifying races but those clouds cleared up quickly. Sadly, that sprinkle was just a small taste as to what was to come. A massive storm dumped huge amounts of rain on CNS and lightning lit up the skies. The CNS officials had no choice but to call the event before it ever started.
Next week (07-16-2011) is USG Night at CNS and will feature the Sportsmans, Pro Trucks, Super Stocks, Legends, Supermodifieds, and Trains.
